Maximo Marcuso, an internationally acclaimed tenor, will delight local concert goers in Palm Springs with a special appearance during the Christmas Season.

Marcuso, a native of Guatemala now living in the valley, will appear at the Richards Center for the Arts on Sunday afternoon, December 3. The concert, which begins at 2:00 p.m., will feature an eclectic selection of music appropriate to the Christmas season, as well as operatic favorites, classical crossovers and Broadway standards.

Marcuso grew up in a family of musicians, and was initially trained by his mother, a renowned soprano. He made his first public stage appearance at the age of eight, singing the “Ave Maria” at the National Palace in Guatemala City.

His musical education progressed at the National Cultural Center and later at the prestigious Maria Callas School of Opera. By the time he was 18, he was touring internationally through Central America, Mexico and the United States.

Maximo settled briefly in Miami where he established a career featuring a variety of musical genres including opera, crossover and Latin jazz. But California beckoned and he was soon being coached here by Maestro Frank Paul Fetta, director of the Culver City Symphony and the Redlands Bowl Summer Festival, as well as by Brent McMunn, conductor/director of USC’s Thornton Opera.

For several years Maximo served as a tenor soloist at the Crystal Cathedral’s Hour of Power in Garden Grove, Ca. He has appeared as a guest artist with the Pasadena Symphony’s “Night at the Oscars” and “Music under the Stars,” and has been a featured soloist for the Golden State Pops Orchestra’s “Holiday Pops Spectacular.”

He has also performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Ensemble and the Hollywood Ensemble Opera, as well as the Santa Monica and Nevada Symphonies.

His recent engagements include European appearances in Berlin, Frankfurt and Rome, and in the United States in New York, Boston, Chicago, Atlantic City, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

The December 3 appearance is the first of four concerts offered by Palm Springs Concerts’ for its sixty-sixth season.
