The Euclid Quartet, one of the most highly regarded chamber ensembles of its generation, will regale and delight the Palm Springs Concerts audience on Sunday, February 9. Formed in 1998, the quartet takes its name from Cleveland’s Euclid Avenue, home to a wealth of renowned artistic and cultural institutions.
Having performed together for a quarter of a century, these musicians are a multi-national mix, with violinists Jameson Cooper and Alina Hakanoglu, violist Enrique Vargas, and cellist Justin Goldsmith.
Captivating audiences and critics from Carnegie Hall to the nation’s classrooms the quartet consistently performs to enthusiastic acclaim. One critic gushed, “The quartet rises above mere excellence to perform with obvious openness and joy. They are an energetic group with great focus and drive and their performances are impassioned, musical, and communicative.”
Winners of many awards and recognitions, the quartet was the first American group given the top prize at Osaka’s International Chamber Music Competition. Add to that their many U. S. awards, including the Hugo Kauder International Competition for Strings, the Carmel Chamber Music Competition, and the Yellow Springs Competition. Topping it all was the “American Masterpiece” grant they received from the National Endowment for the Arts.
They play a highly enjoyable mix of chamber pieces by Drorak, Alvarez, Bolcum, Gershwin, Mozart, Piazzolla, Puccini, Schubert, Shostakovich, Turina, Webern, Wolf and others.
Despite their Northern Ohio origin, the Euclid Quartet has been appointed to a prestigious residency at Indiana University’s South Bend campus, where between concerts they give private lessons and teach chamber music.
All this and more is being prepared for you at the Richards Center for the Arts in February. This performance is the fourth in Palm Springs Concerts’ stellar 2024-25 line-up.
Please note: All sales final. No refunds.
